People are Talking: Tim Feeney Trainings on TBI and Identity

Nearly 150 professionals, parents, veterans, caregivers, and people living with TBI turned out for Tim Feeney’s trainings on TBI, Identity, and Social Reintegration. A powerful theme was “Self-Regulation”, a necessary ability for anyone to be welcomed in their community.

Feeney’s spoke on creating a new identity, supportive scripts for self-regulation (Ready, Not Ready; Big Deal, Little Deal), the power of projects to fill that “down time” with meaningful activities. Example of a powerful project: make a Self Advocacy Video to teach people about you and how to successfully work with you. These videos can easily morph into Self Coaching Videos.

Tim also talked about the power of “Implicit Memory” that is strengthened by repeated meaningful daily activities. A strong “Implicit Memory”, naturally compensates for challenges with “Explicit Memory”.

Some comments:

“Can he come back and do a hands on training where we practice?”
“This really helped us with ideas for our daughter.”
“Where was he 10 years ago? We needed this.”
“He gets it.”
Thank you to the hosts and sponsors: Seattle Children’s Rehabilitation Department, BEST, Pacific Northwest Neurological Society, HeadStrong, TACID, Vet Corps, and Edmonds Community College Veterans Training Support Center.
And a BIG THANK YOU to Tim Feeney for generously sharing his time, knowledge, and humor with us.
